Hi everyone,
This week instead of sharing a quote, I wanted to share with you this moving poem by Tony Walsh.
You can also read the poem if you prefer.
Our VC’s blog this week is also centred around the tragic events that occurred in Manchester on Monday evening, and about the importance of our community.
Andy Price our Head of Politics also gave his views in an article published in The Conversation.
If you or anyone you know is struggling following the news here is some useful advice provided by the Greater Manchester NHS.
It is hard to follow – but we do have a few updates from across the University for you this week.
Your successes
I added a reminder last week following Simon’s initial email about sharing your successes with me, whether they be work related or personal, for the our all team brief in June. Please don’t be shy and drop me a note!
Data centre move
DTS want to make everyone aware that they are planning on moving their data centre which will impact IT services on the following dates:

16-18 June
They are both weekends so disruption should be minimal but this means there will be no access to email, Unified Comms telephony or Campus-based IT services including major University systems (such as shuspace and the staff intranet) for short periods during these times.
Sustainable Travel Fair
SHU Sustainability invite you to our Sustainable Travel fair at both City and Collegiate Campus.

• 5 June (World Environment Day) : City Campus, 10am – 1pm – Owen Level 6 mezzanine
• 8 June : Collegiate Campus, 10am – 1pm – Heart of the Campus exhibition space (opposite main reception)
These offer a great chance to hear about exclusive discounts and travel initiatives on offer from providers such as; SYPTE, Inmotion!, Move More, Bike Rehab and more. There’s also an opportunity to bag yourself some freebies.
You can also take part in the “Cross Campus Commute” challenge. Hop on our static bike and compete to see who can cycle the distance between City and Collegiate campus quickest and top the leader board.
