Teaching Facilities

We have a number of multi-purpose and more specialised chemistry and analytical science labs. We also have a number of specialist facilities including a centrifuge suite and two state of the art cell culture teaching labs.

We teach a wide variety of practical classes ranging from molecular and cell biology, microbiology to synthetic, physical and analytical chemistry.

The labs are extensively equipped with current equipment providing students with hands on experience of modern scientific instrumentation.

Laboratory classes

For practical classes we provide technical assistance for

• Scheduling of classes
• Setting up the reagents and equipment
• Demonstration of instruments and techniques
• Developing and testing new practical classes
• Providing class scripts and laboratory methods
• Risk assessment or practical classes
• Using a quality management system to ensure consistency and reproducibility of lab sessions.

Undergraduate and MSc research project sessions

We provide technical support for the following

• Supplying reagents and consumables
• Providing starter cultures of mammalian cells and microbial cultures
• Assistance with experimental planning and calculations
• Instrument and technique training
• Troubleshooting students’ experimental issues.
