Procurement, internal stores and equipment

Ordering of reagents and consumables from external companies is done via the E5 purchasing and authorisation portal. Members of staff attend a short training session with Finance to allow them to use the system. Stores has a range of stock available internally, for example, plastic ware, gloves, some standard solvents and chemicals, gas cylinders. An internal order form needs to be completed to get these items (BMRC users will find this form on the Q drive).

All items go through an authorisation process to ensure that the department is allowed to hold them and that the necessary regulations or licences are adhered to.

Internal stores is staffed by Technical staff. Hazardous chemicals will be released to their owner on production of a valid risk assessment. Internal stores is located in room 720 Owen.

Opening times for collection of items

Monday to Thursday 10.30am to 10.45am and 3pm to 3.15pm. Stores does not open on Fridays to allow time for stocking and maintenance.

Equipment and asset management

The technical team provide a range of equipment services from day to day logistical support, repairs and maintenance to technical advice, support and training.
All electrical equipment will be PATested and needs to be planned, for example, location and provision of services need to be considered for all new items.

If you find any equipment that isn’t working it must be reported to the technical team and logged on the equipment repair log.

If you are unsure how to use something please ask for training before using the equipment. Contact the technical team. This is important to ensure that you do not injure yourself or other lab users, but also so the equipment is not damaged.
