Undergraduate Law modules:

How many modules can I take?

Please note: All undergraduate law modules are taught across two semesters. There are no single semester undergraduate law modules.

All modules at Sheffield Hallam University carry credit which indicates the workload attached to the module. All modules carry 20 CATS (10 ECTS) credits.

As you are here for a full year then you will take 120 CATS (60 ECTS) credits. This is the equivalent of 6 year-long law modules, or 5 year-long law modules and both none law modules.

What modules can I choose from?

You can choose from the following selection of modules. Please note that level 5 modules have weekly lectures (1 hour) and only one seminar (1 hour) every two weeks.

A division is made in the options below between ‘core’ modules and ‘optional/elective’ modules. Core modules are those which students studying in England and Wales must complete in order to acquire a qualifying law degree (the academic stage of becoming a legal practitioner in England and Wales). Optional / Elective modules are those which law students at Sheffield Hallam University are given as a choice from which they must select one. You do not have that restriction. You are free to choose as many optional / elective modules that your University agrees to. Please also note that the module codes provided may change from time to time. Students that are participating in an exchange with SHU are required to undertake study at Level 5, which is the equivalent of a second year undergraduate law degree. We would again request that you check with your home institution whether this level of study is appropriate for your degree.

These modules are taught at our Collegiate Campus which is about 20 minutes’ walk from the city centre, in the popular student area around Ecclesall Road, Sheffield.

All modules at Sheffield Hallam University carry credit which indicates the workload attached to the module. All modules carry 30 CATS (15 ECTS) credits.

You will need to discuss, with your sending institution, the number of credits you are required to undertake as part of your overall course. We do not accept responsibility for students who do not undertake the requisite number of credits to be able to progress with their course in their home institution. Your University might require the same so it is important that you check with your academic advisor in your University to ensure that your selection is appropriate.

What modules can I choose from?

For students studying towards a Masters level qualification you can choose from the following selection of modules, which will be taught in semester 1 only.

There will be a combination of methods of teaching, including, lectures, interactive sessions, workshops and seminars. Emphasis is placed on self-directed learning and the majority of time will be spent on independent studies.
