{"id":33,"date":"2021-07-21T12:19:04","date_gmt":"2021-07-21T12:19:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/workexperience\/?page_id=33"},"modified":"2022-06-07T14:01:31","modified_gmt":"2022-06-07T14:01:31","slug":"criminology","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/workexperience\/criminology\/","title":{"rendered":"Criminology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><u>Criminology short placements<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our students develop\u00a0a variety of skills\u00a0during their studies that are\u00a0relevant\u00a0to criminal justice agencies and the voluntary and community\u00a0sector.\u00a0They bring the latest thinking to your organisation, activities include; research, project work and administration.\u00a0Our students are keen\u00a0to\u00a0work in an area relevant to their degree and future career aspirations.<\/p>\n<p>Placements typically run January to April, 4 days per week for 10 weeks and can be offered as virtual, face to face or blended. We place students in a wide-range of statutory and voluntary organisations.\u00a0\u00a0Our students are supported to be able to work on site and remotely to meet business need.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Examples of previous placements;\n<ul>\n<li>Evaluating trends of Domestic Abuse and well-being in communities that can lead to criminal activity and identify how the organisation can include within their programmes.<\/li>\n<li>Charity support roles: Telephone feedback calls to ensure the client&#8217;s voice is shaping service, helpline support, group coordinator positions, HUB positions and administration roles.<\/li>\n<li>Undertaking project and administrative support to progress organisation objectives (collating monitoring statistics for funders). Supporting partnership working with other agencies who support clients (drug and alcohol services).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What are the courses involved?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/courses\/criminology\/ba-honours-criminology\/full-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"0\">BA Criminology<\/a>\u00a0which has an emphasis on all aspects of crime, its causes, responses, victims and offenders<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/courses\/criminology\/bsc-honours-criminology-and-psychology\/full-time\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"1\">BSc Criminology &amp; Psychology<\/a>\u00a0which includes bespoke modules relating to all aspects of human behaviour in addition to criminology modules<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/courses\/criminology\/ba-honours-criminology-and-sociology\/full-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"2\">BA Criminology &amp; Sociology<\/a>\u00a0which includes in depth modules relating to the contemporary social world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>When do they happen?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>January to April<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do I apply?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please register your interest via the application form &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/unihub.shu.ac.uk\/Form.aspx?id=1313848\">https:\/\/unihub.shu.ac.uk\/Form.aspx?id=1313848<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Anything else I need to know?
