Where to store your files

Microsoft uses your internal hard drive (currently partitioned into your C:Drive and D:Drive) for the installation of Windows 10. You will lose access to any files stored here (including those on your desktop) when the new operating system is deployed to you.

Every student and member of staff has access to 1 TB or storage through their OneDrive account and the new version of Microsoft Office will save files there by default. OneDrive is a useful storage space and integrates really well with software in the new version of Office but it’s worth remembering that you will only have this space while you are at the University and no-one else will have access to the files stored there when you leave – even if you’ve shared a link to them.

You may find this table useful to help you decide which types of files should be stored where.  The GDPR spring clean your data checklist is another good reference point.
