Professor Terrence Perera, BSc(Hons), PhD, MIIE

Chair in Systems Modelling and Simulation, Department of Engineering & Mathematics, Sheffield Hallam University

Summary

With his extensive experience in computer simulation, Professor Perera, has delivered many high-profile industry-based projects and supervised PhD projects relating to manufacturing, supply chain and healthcare sectors. His research interests include supply chain modelling and simulation ,healthcare logistics and process improvement strategies.

Profile:

Professor Perera has BSc(Hons) Mechanical Engineering from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka and PhD from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland. He is a well-known consultant and practitioner in the field of systems modelling and simulation. He assists companies to deploy simulation based solution for strategic advantage. Companies from manufacturing, food and healthcare sectors have sought his expertise to develop simulation based solutions. His clients include BAE SYSTEMS, Caterpillar, Bosch and Sweden Post, Anglo Beef Processors (ABP), Fosters Bakery and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, As an active researcher in this area. He has received funding from UK Research Councils and industry to investigate both fundamental and application related issues of simulation. An example of this is the work with BAE SYSTEMS to develop a framework for deploying simulation technologies across the design and manufacture of airframes. This work also developed strategies to link external data sources with simulation tools. His current research work focuses on use of simulation in lean projects and novel applications in healthcare and food sectors. He is a recipient of 5 EPSRC Research grants
