University English Scheme

Sheffield Hallam students who are non-native English speakers can take advantage of the University English Scheme and the Language Advisory Service to develop their academic English.

University English Scheme workshops & classes
Students choose from a range of free modules, workshops and classes to help develop academic English for undergraduate and postgraduate study. Classes and workshops run over the course of the semester in Arundel building, room 10212A.  Attendance at weekly sessions is advised, but not a requirement.

You can secure your place by booking through Unihub (click on ‘view workshops’ below), but it’s fine to come along and see if there are places left.

You will be asked to register your details and enter your preferences when accessing Unihub for the first time, just follow the instructions

Language Advisory Service appointments
The Language Advisory Service (LAS) offers one-to-one appointments with an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) lecturer to discuss improvements to spoken or written work. The lecturers are able to provide guidance on a range of issues such as text organisation, grammar, vocabulary, argument construction and pronunciation. It should be noted that this is not a proof-reading service. A list of appointments are available on Unihub.
