What is a Writing Forum?

A Writing Forum is small group session (up to 4 students) where you can share and discuss your piece of work with peers and the Academic Skills Tutor.   Attending these sessions will be beneficial to –

  • share experiences with peers and see other students’ writing
  • receive feedback in order to develop your writing
  • get to grips with a particular type of writing (e.g. reflection, literature review)
  • understand and address tutor feedback on your writing
  • write less descriptively and more critically
  • discuss your initial assignment ideas to help with drafting a plan

To get the most from this session bring a short piece of writing on a USB stick to share and discuss.

It’s helpful to bring your assignment question and assessment criteria as well.

You will receive individual input from the Academic Skills Tutor and have the opportunity to discuss any further support you might need.

What is a Workshop?

A workshop is a taught session led by a tutor on a specific academic skill. Our workshop programme covers a range of essential skills and practical approaches.  There are usually 8-12 people in a workshop, allowing them to be interactive and offering lots of opportunities for discussion.
