Summer at the Bridge!

Over the summer months here on the Bridge in Adsetts and at Collegiate, the Academic Skills Tutor will continue to run a summer programme.  This will include Writing Forums and other sessions on request.

At a Writing Forum you can discuss any aspect of your academic writing:

  • descriptive vs critical writing
  • style and structure
  • developing arguments
  • understanding assessment criteria
  • responding to academic feedback before  re-submission
  • in fact anything to help you improve your academic writing style!

All you need to do is book a session via the Bridge website – and bring along a short extract of your writing on a USB stick.  It really doesn’t matter how early or far along you are with the writing process – our tutor will guide the discussion and you will go away confident in the next steps you need to take!  The groups are small, warm and supportive – with 4-6 participants.

If the available session times are difficult for your course (due to placement etc) please let your tutor know so that they can contact us (see our FAQs on our website) and we will try to add convenient additional sessions.

We have a wealth of e-resources on this website and an e-bookcase of academic study skills self-help books. You might also want to check out Skills4Study Campus – a great online course covering all aspects of academic study skills.  Just log in with your usual SHU log in via our resources page.

Have a great summer – and look forward to seeing you on the Bridge!
