The Month of October is\u00a0dedicated to Black History Month and Sheffield Hallam University has teamed up with Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union and the National Union of Students Black Students campaign to organise a series of events to celebrate Black History Month.<\/p>\n

Highlights of the programme of events include a speech by writer and broadcaster Trevor Phillips OBE, a seminar led by rapper and writer Akala, and a showcase and exhibition of the history of hiphop.<\/p>\n

Hassun El Zafar, education officer at Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union, said: “Black History Month is an international annual observance which recognises inspirational events and individuals that have helped shape black history.<\/p>\n

“To celebrate this month, we are holding a series of workshops and events to raise awareness of the month, and promote cultural cohesion amongst our students here at Sheffield Hallam.”<\/p>\n

Maxine Greaves, equality and community engagement manager at Sheffield Hallam, said: “This is an opportunity for people across the city of Sheffield to embrace its heritage, and celebrate the huge range of talent, the fearless activism and the innovative thinking that has helped make Sheffield the city it is today.”<\/p>\n
