This section bring together a whole range of guidance, information and resources that relate to apprenticeships and work-based teaching, learning and assessment and are managed by colleagues from across different directorates/departments/teams at Hallam.
News
- 6th December 2023: WonkHE – go hard or go home – where next for Degree Apprenticeships? A webinar recording and collection of resources.
- 2nd August 2023: The future of degree apprenticeships in the UK is up for debate. The apprenticeship levy is working well, but there are some who want to scrap it. In a new article for Times Higher Education (THE), the Vice-Chancellor and Natalie Day, Head of Policy and Strategy, argue that the levy should be kept, but with some specific improvements. Higher and Degree Apprenticeship (HDA)
Higher and Degree Apprenticeship (HDA) – an academic resource site, created to inform the design and delivery of apprenticeship provision at Hallam, including their Work-Based Learning (WBL) elements, to achieve the necessary compliance requirements and embed best practice. A major part of this is ensuring the apprentice is supported by the provider (Hallam) and also the employer. This website includes:

Careers and Employability Service
- BESE: student and graduate employability service – provides students and graduates with employability development and career preparation support and opportunities.
- SHU Careers and Employability – for Hallam students.
- Careers Connect – online resources for students and graduates.
- BESE: Enterprise – part of the Student and Graduate Employability Service offer and as such, plays an important role in supporting the establishment of an enterprise and entrepreneurial culture across the University and in contributing to the wider SCR entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Curriculum Integrated Employability
Curriculum-Integrated Employability (CIE) is the basis on which all employability activity in curriculum will be established. The CIE Framework outlines the undergraduate Curriculum-Integrated Employability approach which will facilitate consistent, progressive, and meaningful course design and module content in line with Curriculum Structures guidance. The purpose of this document is to support course designers in developing the curriculum to ensure the integration of Hallam Employability ambitions. This refreshes the work previously undertaking through the Highly Skilled Employment (HSE) step change project.

Work Experience Team
BESE: Work Experience Team – provides operational support to:
- Sandwich placements (under the Applied Professional Diploma in [Industry / Community / International / Research Consultancy / Enterprise].

Employer Partnerships
BESE: Employer Partnerships – responsible for engaging and working with employers, locally, nationally and globally to ensure that there is a strong, appropriate employer offer to enable students and graduates to secure work experiences, placements, part time jobs, internships, freelance jobs and graduate jobs.
Highly Skilled Employability (HSE)
Highly Skilled Employment (HSE) – academic resources to support course and module leaders with guidance, information and resources to review, inform and evolve their curriculum, to create their own space, identify and develop learning experiences that would prepare students and give them the confidence to access and gain future employment. This includes:

Placement learning
- Sandwich Placements Includes:
- ** signposting ** resources ** applied professional diploma ** FAQs.
- Virtual Placement Resource – short placements – these sessions have been created to help support students through their short placement. They have been put together in collaboration with students and graduates who are currently or have recently done placements or internships.
- Your work placements – a collection of students frequently asked questions to provide answers to all things surrounding coronavirus and a students’ work placement.
For academic staff with responsibility for supervising sandwich placement students during their sandwich placement year in your role as a Placement Academic Supervisor (PAS). The Placement-Academic-Supervisor-Guide-v1.1 should be used as a supplementary overview, with any Department-specific directions coming from your Department’s Business & Engagement Lead, Employability Lead or Placement Lead (as appropriate).
