{"id":2480,"date":"2017-08-23T07:37:32","date_gmt":"2017-08-23T07:37:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/talent-june-2019\/?page_id=2480"},"modified":"2023-11-10T19:48:39","modified_gmt":"2023-11-10T19:48:39","slug":"collaborative-award-for-teaching-excellence-cate","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/talent\/collaborative-award-for-teaching-excellence-cate\/","title":{"rendered":"Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Are you part of a high performing team?<\/h5>\n<p>The <strong>Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE)<\/strong> celebrates collaborative work in teaching and learning and captures the creative and innovative practice that positively impacts on the student experience. The awards recognise teams who have made a significant impact on student outcomes and\/or enabled a change in practice for colleagues at an institutional or disciplinary\/professional level.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS), the CATE carries significant prestige with only 15 teams receiving the award each year across the UK HE sector.\u00a0 Successful team members are expected to become an ambassador for the scheme and<br \/>\nsupport the ongoing enhancement of learning and teaching.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme is open to members of staff from all providers of higher education across the four nations of the UK.\u00a0 Please note that <strong>your context <\/strong>is taken into account regarding the range and scope of impact you can be expected to have, which means the award is open to those working in non-teaching academic and professional roles as well as those in academic roles.<\/p>\n<p>As an eligible institution, Sheffield Hallam can submit one nomination for a CATE each year.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Applying for the CATE:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>A case is made for excellence focused on two criteria:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Criterion 1: Excellence in the team\u2019s collaborative approach <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Evidence of excellence in the team\u2019s approach to working collaboratively; commensurate with their context and the opportunities afforded by it.\u00a0 This effectively means that excellence is measured \u00a0in relation to what your place\/context within the University enables you to do and doesn\u2019t favour those in more senior roles.<\/p>\n<p>This may, for example, be demonstrated by providing evidence of excellence in terms of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>having a clear set of aims, objectives and rationale for the team\u2019s approach and how the group constitutes a team and developed as a team;<\/li>\n<li>demonstrating direct engagement of students within or with the team;<\/li>\n<li>illustrating how the team has contributed to wider thematic and sector priorities, for example, assessment and feedback; retention, employability, staff development; students as partners; technology and social media;<\/li>\n<li>working collaboratively with a range of stakeholder groups;<\/li>\n<li>embedding practices across different programmes, disciplines, campuses or institutions;<\/li>\n<li>being flexible and creative in working to address unanticipated situations or events;<\/li>\n<li>measuring the impact or outcomes of collaborative work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Criterion 2: Excellence in the impact of collaborative working <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Evidence of the team having a demonstrable impact on teaching and learning beyond their immediate academic or professional area.
