Our Look After Your Mate Week is a campaign which aims to give more students at Sheffield Hallam the knowledge, confidence and skills you need to support your friends at university, and raise awareness of the importance of good mental health.

University can be hard work – leaving home, living independently, balancing uni work with a part-time job, going out, managing finances, there can be a lot of pressures! This is why it’s important to ensure that you are looking after your own mental health, and helping to support your friends, housemates and course mates whenever they might need it.

Alongside SHSU Student Minds Society, Student Minds and Sheffield Hallam University, the Students’ Union have put together an amazing programme of events through the week to help you relax, have fun, interact and also find out how you can support each other!

10th October, 7pm – Quiz Night in HUBSpace, The HUBS

11th October, 7pm  – Pamper Night in The Stage, The HUBS

12th October, 2pm – Look After Your Mate workshop, The HUBS

12th October, 5pm – Love Your Leftovers Wellness Meal in Coffee Union, The HUBS

Don’t worry if you can’t make it down to one of these events, there are plenty of other ways that you can look after your friends and yourself during your time at university. Student Minds have put together an incredible guide which supports you to look out for your mates, from starting a conversation to navigating the student journey:

You can also find more information about your mental health and why it’s important to support your friends on the Healthy Hallam section of the Students’ Union website.
