World Mental Health Day is on Tuesday 10th October – it’s an international day dedicated to raising awareness of mental health issues. We have physical health and mental health and raising awareness is key to challenging stigma, discrimination and promoting wellbeing.
The theme for 2017 is Wellbeing at work. So, whether you are a student on placement, a student working part-time to cover rent and living costs, or a member of University staff, it’s vital to take steps to maintain your wellbeing. For example, taking proper lunch breaks and saying no to requests to take on more work than you can manage can make a big difference. Sheffield Hallam University signed the Time to Change pledge alongside Hallam Union in 2014, making a commitment to tackle the stigma that is associated with mental health difficulties in relation to students and staff.
To mark this year’s World Mental Health Day at Sheffield Hallam we will have stalls on Level 2, Atrium, City Campus and Ground Floor, Heart of the Campus, Collegiate on Tuesday 10th October from 10am-3pm. Students and staff can visit the stalls and pick up information and tips about how to look after your wellbeing at work and general wellbeing advice, as well as information about the Time to Change Pledge and what it means.
Sheffield Mental Health Week also runs from the 9th to the 14th October, with The Moor Market Pop Up Info stall. For further information visit https://sheffevents.co.uk/organiser/sheffield-mental-health-week/
