Carers Rights Day 2016 is on Friday 25 November, and this year’s theme is: Missing out? Know your rights as a carer
What is Carers Rights Day?
Each year Carers UK hold Carers Rights Day to help carers in their local community know their rights and find out how to get the help and support they are entitled to.
What is Sheffield Hallam doing to mark Carers Rights Day?
This year to mark Carers Rights Day we are holding a holding our first Carers Café of the year on Thursday 24 November, 4pm – 6pm in The Raynor Lounge at The University of Sheffield.
This is a friendly and informal event including a quiz, pizza and freebies! So if you help to look after someone at home because they have an illness, disability, mental health or addiction problem, come along to
- Have a break and some time to relax
- Meet other student carers
- Hear about your rights as a carer
- Find out about support for carers
If you aren’t sure where to go, staff will meet you at the main entrance to City Campus at 3:15pm and walk together to the event.
To book your place, please contact Lynette Granger by emailing transitions@shu.ac.uk or calling 0114 225 2184.
What support is there for carers at Sheffield Hallam?
As a student carer you can access support from our student carer advisers throughout your time here. Robin and Lynette can offer information and advice about University life and sources of support and can be contacted with any questions.
We’ve also created a new Facebook group for students with caring responsibilities. Here you can contact us directly if you have any questions or queries about University or if you need support. You can find information and tips about being a carer whilst at university. You can also connect with other carers and make new friends, which may make your time at university that little bit easier. It’s easy to get involved! Simply follow the link to our group page and click join!
