Help break the silence around mental health!
Thursday 4 February is Time to Talk Day – is a day when everyone is encouraged to have a conversation about mental health.
- At Sheffield Hallam University, we want to help break the silence and end the stigma around mental health.
- Mental health problems affect 1 in 4 people every year
- 9 in 10 of those experiencing a mental health problem have faced negative treatment from others.
- That’s why we’re participating in Time to Talk Day, run by Time to Change
- Help spread the word that you don’t need to be an expert to talk about mental health.
- Time to Change is England’s biggest programme to challenge mental health stigma and discrimination and is run by the charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness.
Some small steps you can take to be a supportive friend or colleague:
- Take 5 with a friend or colleague for a cup of tea.
- Walk and talk with a friend or colleague and catch up with them.
- Smile and say hello to someone you’ve never spoken to before.
- Text a friend or parent and let them know you are thinking about them.
- Thank someone and tell them something you appreciate about them.
Help break the stigma by starting a chat about mental health
