Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union is holding its annual Housing Fair between 12 – 5pm on Tuesday 1st December 2015 at the HUBS; all the houses advertised at the fair are Snug registered.
There is a rumour in Sheffield that there is a shortage of student housing – this is a myth!
There is a belief that if you haven’t signed for a property by the end of November, you won’t find one, or you’ll be left with a house of horrors – this is also a myth!
Here’s the truth…
There is a surplus of good quality, affordable student housing in Sheffield.
If you take the time to look at a few places and choose carefully, you’re far more likely to find the perfect place for you.
Even if the biggest houses go quickly, you could consider moving into two smaller houses next door to each other or on the same street.
Take the time to get to know your new friends, are you absolutely sure you could live with them?.. For a whole year? You have only just met them!
Take the time to find a house you can afford; before you rush in to signing for that luxury flat, have you actually worked out whether you can afford to pay the rent, bills and still have money left over?
Take the time to find a Snug registered property. Snug properties are inspected by Sheffield City Council to ensure both the house and the Landlord are student friendly.
Look out for the Snug logo.
It’s also worth taking the time to see how you progress on your course; if you decide that the course or University isn’t for you or you don’t pass the first year, then you could be stuck paying for a house you can’t move in to.
A housing contract is a legally binding contract; once you’ve signed it, it is extremely difficult to get out of it! And that’s a fact.
