Culture Connect mentoring scheme matches new students with an experienced student mentor, who will help them to settle into their new university environment by encouraging them to take part in extracurricular activities and make friends. Research suggests that students who have successfully transitioned are more likely to take an active role in the university community and persist through difficulties.
As students may be matched with someone from a different country, they have the opportunity to learn about different worldviews and develop their intercultural skills, which are becoming essential in today’s globalised workplace. Plus it’s an opportunity for them to add volunteering experience to their CV and reflect on the skills they have gained with Hallam Award.
The scheme welcomes diversity. All students (any nationality, level of study, course and faculty) can apply as a mentee or mentor. Students can register their interest on the Facebook page.
