This is a three day event next week on Tuesday 16 June, Wednesday 17 June and Thursday 18 June, which includes a final one-to-one in-depth action/career planning appointment on day 3.

Did you know? Final year students are eligible to work on campus until September. Students can also pop into the Careers and Employability Centre (outside Owen Building) or the Student Services Centre at Heart of the Campus, for a list of other jobsites.

We’re here over the summer to help you find a job on campus or outside University!

Book an appointment with one of our employment advisers.  They can help with searching for part time vacancies, CVs, application forms and interview techniques – ask for your link employment adviser for advice on placements/internships related to your area of study. They can also help you apply speculatively to companies for internships/volunteering work.

Talk about your ideas. If you want to talk more generally about your career direction, for instance what kind of summer work experience would the most valuable to your career – you can book an appointment with a careers adviser.

Arrange a mock interview with our advisers! Simply call into Careers & Employability Centre outside the Owen Building or the Student Services Centre at Heart of the Campus or ring 0114 225 3752.

Work at SHU or in the wider community. Look on shuspace > employability tab for part time vacancies on or off campus. Try browsing through our “Student Internships and Summer Placements” section.  We add new vacancies on a regular basis so it’s worth checking regularly.

Internships

Some career areas (e.g. Law) have specific summer work placements that students can apply for – however, it may be slightly late for this year’s applications:

http://www.lawcareers.net/Solicitors/WorkPlacementDeadlines – Contact your faculty helpdesk to make an appointment to see your employment adviser if you’re unsure.

Careers Central, Prospects and TARGETjobs also have information on work placements/internships.

Wanting to work abroad?

Students often want to work abroad for the summer. Earlier in the year, we get lots of American summer camps who come onto campus to recruit students (Camp America, CCUSA etc.). It may now be a bit late to apply for summer camps, but if want to ask any questions or if you are thinking about it for next summer, please get in touch with the Careers and Employment team on 0114 225 3752.

The Careers Central website, for Sheffield Hallam students, has loads of information such as the page on working abroad, which has links to several companies which run international work placements/volunteering projects.

TARGETjobs also has a useful website of country profiles for students wishing to work abroad.
