As the weather gets colder and the nights draw in, it’s more important than ever to make sure you’re safe, happy and healthy in your university life. By now, you may be getting used to life in Sheffield if it’s your first year, or getting back into the student lifestyle, if it’s your second or third year. Coursework deadlines and exams are approaching as well as the run-up to Christmas. We’d like to share some top tips for how to get through the party and revision season in good health!

Worried about your coursework?

It’s the writing up period for most students at this time of year, which means drafting, revising and finalising your coursework assignments.

Sheffield Hallam offers support with your academic writing and also with your general wellbeing.

Study Support

Study Skills workshops are a great tool for guidance on writing coursework, including dissertation writing, critical writing and referencing.

If you need a bit of extra help with an assignment, bring it along to one of the drop-in study sessions where you can meet with a study support tutor who will go through your assignment with you.

If you don’t have the time to attend a workshop but could do with some quick tips, The Study Skills Toolkit, a Sheffield Hallam University online resource to develop your academic and study skills may be a good start.

The Academic Skills blog is a really useful source of information on success in academic work, including online maths resources, editing and polishing assignments and presentations.

Support for your wellbeing

Hand-ins can be a stressful time. The Student Wellbeing service offers different types of support for all students. You may like some tips on how you can look after yourself, workshops and counselling.

If you’d like to speak to someone about any aspect of your course or anything else there is support from the Advice and Information Team who offer daily drop-ins on an impartial and confidential basis.

Having fun, staying safe

Now that the party season is approaching (as well as coursework deadline time!) you may be finding good opportunities to take a well-earned break from your studies. If you’re not into going out partying, there’s plenty more activities to get involved in, both via Hallam Union’s clubs and societies  and in Sheffield and the surrounding Peak District.

While it’s great to have fun in a variety of ways, if you are planning on hitting the town, we would like to remind you to stay safe when getting home at night. As well as ensuring you plan your route, never walk alone and try to book taxis from designated companies.
