From Monday 1st September, all students and staff will need to remember their SHUcard for swipe access to the library at Adsetts and Collegiate.
Everyone, whether you’re a new student, returning student or a member of staff – will be asked to carry their SHUcard at all times, so that when you come to the learning centre you can swipe your card and walk through the gates. Your SHUcard is your proof of ID.
What are the benefits?
• Increased security – as part of the student experience we want to provide safe and secure learning spaces for students. Other city centre universities have reported as much as 90% reductions in petty thefts after introducing similar systems.
• We love statistics – the card readers help us to see who comes into the libraries – we want to understand who uses our buildings and when our peak times are, so that we can improve our services.
• More benefits coming soon – we’re working with the CASHU project to try and provide more services for SHUcard holders.
What if I forget my SHUcard?
Don’t panic! If you forget your SHUcard, you’ll be asked to provide some ID and fill in a form.
What if my SHUcard is lost or stolen?
It is quick and easy to get a replacement SHUcard – just contact the SHUcard office or visit the main reception at City Campus.
What about visitors to the learning centres?
We’ve always welcomed visitors to the buildings – members of the public, registered borrowers, students from other institutions, associate members and alumni. Visitors who don’t have a card will be asked to sign in with a form of ID, and will be given a temporary pass. Regular visitors will be invited to become members of the SHU libraries.
If you’ve any other questions – just get in touch, the learning staff will be happy to help.
