It’s that time of year when you may be thinking about your housing options for September. We’ve asked Daniel Armstrong from SHU’s Accommodation Services team to fill us in on the choices available, whether you prefer to live with friends or on your own. So, here’s over to Daniel…
“Whether you’re after halls or a house, we’ll help you find your perfect home…
Stay in Halls
More students than ever before are choosing to live in halls after their first year. The reasons behind the rise in popularity include getting your bills included, you’re near your lectures, and you don’t have to pay rent over the summer if you are going back home.
You and your friends can also apply to all live together in the same flat, or if you’re looking for accommodation alone, we will be able to put you with students of a similar age to yourself.
Sound good? We can guarantee your place (subject to conditions), so apply on our website www.shu.ac.uk/accommodation/apply. Full details and photos are available online for each of our 30 halls of residence, but if you would like to view them in person please contact Accommodation Services (unless you have friends living there who can show you themselves!), and be aware you will need to give 24 hours notice before you can view.
Get a house
It’s not just Sheffield Hallam property we can help with. If you’re after a privately rented house, either as an individual or a group, loads of great landlords are advertising their properties on our website, and we’ll give you all the help and advice you need to find the right home for you. Go to www.shu.ac.uk/privatehousing
Guaranteeing you somewhere safe to live
All the private sector properties we offer on our website have been accredited by Snug. That means you can be confident they’ve been inspected by Sheffield Council and comply with strict rules. Make sure your home has the Snug seal of approval before you sign a contract or pay any deposits.
Resident landlords
Our website also includes a selection of available properties with resident landlords or host families. This option is ideal for those who may want a more family oriented accommodation experience in someone’s home, or for those who might be seeking accommodation without a friendship group.
Need accommodation in another city while you are on placement?
If you have a placement in another city we can help you! Our website has links with other university property sites that mean you can get an approved property with minimum effort. Visit the website here www.shustudenthousing.co.uk and go to the “Another Town” section, on the left.
Staying in Sheffield for the summer?
If you need to stay in Sheffield over the summer, whether that’s for a job/work placement, exams/course requirements, or simply because you want to enjoy events such as Tramlines music festival, please get in touch with accommodation services, who will be able to assist you in finding short-term accommodation over the summer.
