From time to time we hear of unpleasant incidents that happen to students. These things range from internet fraud to burglary to physical violence. We don’t want to frighten students with these stories but they do serve as a reminder to us all to stay safe. There are many things students can do to help protect themselves from crime and other dangers.

5 tips on muggings and personal robbery (from the NUS website):
- Carry your bag close to you with the clasp or pocket facing inwards
- Spread your possessions about
- Be discreet: carry your laptop in a rucksack-style laptop bag, or refrain from white ear-phones advertising your latest high-value Apple product
- Plan your routes to avoid potentially unsafe areas
- Make sure you’ve got insurance and your belongings are registered on www.immobilise.com or another asset register website.
