The Xinjiang re-education camps that have been running since 2017 are argued to mimic the Auschwitz Nazi concentration camps back in 1942. These Chinese concentration camps have been built over three years, imprisoning millions of Muslims and restricting their religious freedom and are arguably a clear example of ‘cultural genocide’. How in this day and age can you forcing someone to be re-educated about religion be moral or legal?
China claims they are receiving ‘vocational training’, but the Uyghur Muslims are instead tortured for their faith. Leaked footage shows the Uyghur Muslim victims imprisoned and indoctrinated for their religious beliefs. A leaked memo states that there should “Never allow escapes” and “Increase discipline and punishment of behavioural violations”.
Although China’s UK ambassador has claimed this is fake news, the evidence from investigation clearly shows the detention camps, which have detained the Uyghur Muslims without trial, is not a voluntary re-education facility for extremism. It is abuse on the Muslim minorities in China, as Lily Kuo states in her article; If you enter a camp, you never come out. Those that have escaped risk life and limb for their beliefs something that should not be happening in 2020. We all have a right to express our religion and beliefs and no one has the right to take that from us, whether Jewish or Muslim or Christian, we all have the freedom to believe.
