University News: July

Hallam Model

Staff, students and stakeholders were recently consulted on a draft set of six principles that outline the distinctive, applied learning experience for Hallam students. Following significant feedback, the Hallam Model principles have been further refined and will be embedded across the University in all UG and PG taught courses as part of a structured process. They are;

  1. Engage – Learning at Hallam engages with the world beyond the University.
  1. Challenge – Learning at Hallam is intellectually stretching.
  1. Collaborate – Learning at Hallam involves learning with, from and alongside others.
  1. Thrive – Learning at Hallam enables students to thrive personally, culturally and professionally.

Work streams aligned to the four principles have been established and engagement with course leaders and other colleagues across the University will take place at the beginning of the next academic year to ensure that they are able to help shape and guide the implementation to the Hallam Model. See the intranet site for further information and colleagues are encouraged to share feedback and ideas with the Hallam Model team via ! Time to Change pledge

The University has refreshed its pledge to the Time to Change campaign. The pledge is a commitment to break the stigma around mental health and encourage a culture where staff and students feel comfortable to talk about the subject. As part of the pledge, a mental health hub has been created to support staff.

Technician Commitment

The exceptional contribution being made to teaching by technical staff here at Hallam got a specific mention by AdvanceHE at the Technician Commitment’s 4th signatory event on Monday 24 June.

The University has recently pledged to the Technician Commitment, a higher education and research sector-led initiative to ensure status, profile & opportunity for the technical community.

The Commitment aims to ensure visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technicians working in higher education and research, across all disciplines. As part of the Technician Commitment at Hallam, a series of initiatives are being planned.

Equality and Diversity Toolkit

Here at Hallam we have a Community of Inclusive Practice to build networks and develop inclusion and belonging at the University. This week there are several events taking place to showcase innovative technology and highlight and explore existing resources and best practice.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are everybody’s responsibility. Through the University’s new Inclusive Decision-Making Toolkit, we can all ensure we are spotting opportunities to be inclusive in everything we do.
The Inclusive Decision-Making Toolkit walks you through a process called Equality Analysis, gives you hints and tips as well as additional information and external links, to support your decision-making.
