Staff Wellbeing: November

Faculty LGBTQ Social

Last month saw the first SSH LGBTQ faculty staff social at Colombo on Eccesall road. The meet up was a great success and Dr James Pickles who initiated the event                                                                      said that:

‘ it gave everyone a chance to meet each other and socialise casually.’

The next meet up is on Wednesday 6 November at 5.30pm at Wagamama’s on Leopold Square. Please contact James for further details.

If you would like to find out more about what is happening in the wider LGBTQ community across the University, then take a look at the Hallam LGBT+ Staff      Network blog

Employers Initiative on Domestic Abuse

The University has joined the Employers Initiative on Domestic Abuse (EIDA). EIDA is helping companies develop good internal policies, tackling the stigma surrounding domestic abuse and making it easier for employees to find the best support. Sheffield Hallam wants to create a safe and supportive workspace and has its own domestic abuse guidance for staff and managers who may be affected.

Cycle to work scheme

The Department for Transport has recently updated the cycle to work guidance which means it is now acceptable for employees to request a Cycle to Work Certificate with a limit over £1000. Find out how this will operate at Sheffield Hallam.

New Cycle Hub

If you cycle into work or have considered doing so, you should check out our recently completed Cycle Hub. Conveniently located on Arundel Gate, the Cycle Hub offers secure, sheltered storage for up to 60 bikes.

Gardening for Wellbeing

The Outdoor Spaces Action Group has been developing some of our outdoor spaces across campus. The first project looked at the terrace on level 4 of Charles Street. The group has installed a number of planters to brighten up the area and is hoping to provide seating so people can sit and enjoy the view.
If you would like to get involved with some of the work the group are doing, the Gardening for Wellbeing club runs every Friday (You’ll need to login with your staff details via UniHub). Get involved and grow fresh organic edibles and plants whilst improving your mental health.
