Staff News: November

Graduation and Honorary Doctorates

From Monday 18 until Friday 22 November, the University will be holding 7 Graduation ceremonies for the faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. Thousands of graduates and their guests will be attending the ceremonies at Sheffield City Hall where they will be presented with their certificates.

As always, the events rely heavily on a huge amount of support from staff and volunteers to make the ceremonies run smoothly.

This years honorary doctorates include the show runner and cast and crew from Doctor Who, Olivier award winning playwright and screen writer Laura Wade, Daniel Gordon, a BAFTA winning and Emmy nominated British documentary maker and Kim Streets, the Chief Executive of the Museums Sheffield. You can read the full list of recipients here.

The Hallam Model

The Hallam Model is based around 4 key principles:

  • Engage – Learning engages with the world beyond the University.
  • Challenge – Learning is intellectually stretching.
  • Collaborate – Learning with, from and alongside others.
  • Thrive – Learning enables students to thrive personally, culturally and professionally.

The principles will be embedded across the University into all Foundation year, undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses, whether that’s full time, part time, distance learning or  in apprenticeship study.
