Education: Problems with predicted grades

Head of the department of education, childhood and inclusion, Dr Iain Garner, calls for a reform of the predicted grades system in a recent article for The Conversation Only a minority of students achieve their predicated marks. It has since been re-published by The Metro.


Policing: 20,000 extra police officers by 2022

One of Boris Johnson’s first policy announcements as new Prime Minister was recruiting 20,000 extra police officers in the next two to three years. Head of policing Paul Berry has written for the Yorkshire Post explaining how Sheffield Hallam is leading the way in training officers. In partnership with South Yorkshire Police, the University offers three routes into policing.


Psychology: Anti-knife crime takeaway boxes

Principal lecturer in psychology, Dr Charlotte Coleman, spoke to BBC Radio Sheffield following the news that the Home Office is going to start using takeaway boxes to share anti-knife crime messages. [08:15]

 

 


Environment: Problem of peat

Professor of environmental geography Ian Rotherham took part in an episode of Tonight on ITV, discussing the impact of peat and peat farming on the environment. He wants to see more information about peat on packaging. [08:55]

 


Tokyo: triathletes disqualified from race

Principal lecturer in law, Peter Charlish, was quoted in a piece written in the Guardian following the disqualification of the two British winning triathletes at the Olympic Games test event in Tokyo. You can read the article in full and Mr Charlish’s agreement with the disqualification here.
