Professor of social and cultural history Dr Alison Twells spoke to the Sheffield Star talking about socialist poet and LGBT activist Edward Carpenter. Although originally from Brighton, Carpenter spent many of his years in Sheffield and was a staunch advocate for liberation and socialism. Professor Ian Rotherham has written his regular column for the Sheffield Telegraph. In this edition, he talks about one of his favourite insects, after a reader sent him a photo – the Elephant Hawk Moth caterpillar. ENVIRONMENT: Amery ice shelf produces Sydney-sized iceberg

Senior lecturer in sustainable construction and climate change John Grant spoke to Paulette Edwards on BBC Radio Sheffield yesterday. He spoke about the concerning news that an iceberg recently broke off the Amery ice shelf in Antarctica which covers up to 632 square miles and what it indicates in terms of global climate.
