Process updates: September

Smoke free from 1 September

Sheffield Hallam wil be a smokefree campus from 2 September, in line with our ambition to enable healthier lives. The new policy is designed to protect everyone on campus from the effects of passive smoke inhalation and discourage the normalisation of smoking for young people. If you are interested in becoming a smokefree ambassador to champion our commitment, please contact Trevor Cooper.

New SAS SharePoint site

The new Student and Academic Services intranet site is due to go live today. Any saved bookmarks and favourites from the former Registry and L3S sites will no longer work and you will need to search the new SAS site in SharePoint Online for the information.

SHU Card app

Following the success of the pilot phase of the SHUcard app, we’re pleased to confirm that this new feature is here to stay. As a result of this, we’ve updated our terms and conditions relating to your use of the system, as well as making some minor updates to make them clearer. You’re still entitled to the same great benefits and rewards as before, and you can continue to use your SHUcard and the SHUcard app as you have done previously.

Don’t forget that not only can the app be used to pay for goods and services on campus, you can also use it to top up, check your balance and keep a track on your loyalty points and rewards.

The updated terms and conditions can be accessed from the SHUcard website.

Windows 10 update

The University is currently in the process of upgrading all PCs to Windows 10 – a vital move as most modern software is now designed for Windows 10 and as such, Microsoft will soon be withdrawing support for Windows 7. The upgrade will also enable us to provide the next generation of Office 365 tools to all staff and students.

The upgrade of student PCs is expected to complete by the end of September 2019. Please note that this includes all classroom and teaching PCs and we therefore recommend that you check the compatibility of all teaching materials (presentation slides etc) before using them. Any materials previously created on a Windows 7 device should be checked on a Windows 10 device in order to avoid any disruptions to teaching at the start of the next academic year.

Please visit the Windows 10 blog for further information on what to expect once your PC has been upgraded. If you have any questions, please contact IT Help via email or x3333.
