New Connecting with Professional Practice Conference!

On 5 June, Hallam Pracademia and the Professional Practice Foundation launched a new externally-facing networking conference: Connecting with Professional Practice. Led by Jill Dickinson, Teri-Lisa Griffiths and Professor Mike Coldwell, the event was themed around professional practice, development, and engagement and was designed to bring together both lecturers and researchers from across the University, and contacts from external organisations, to develop business links.

During the afternoon, colleagues from across the University, including: Business Engagement Skills & Employability, the Centre for Regional, Social and Economic Research, Law & Criminology, Natural & Built Environment, Psychology, Sociology & Politics, and the Sheffield Institute of Education, led series of seminars to showcase their existing collaborative work around research programmes, teaching activities, employability initiatives, and practice projects. Professor Roger Eccleston gave the closing comments and invited everyone to stay for an informal networking reception for follow-up discussions about existing and potential future opportunities for collaboration.

As part of this Conference, delegates were invited to apply for seed corn funding to support the creation and development of further collaborative initiatives around any or all of the following key themes:

  • Research;
  • Teaching and learning; and
  • Employability

The idea is that successful project teams can use this opportunity to pilot their ideas and identify opportunities to take their projects further through external funding.

Feedback from the event included: “range of attendees was really good”, “when’s the next one?”, “lots of food for thought”, and “the [seedcorn] funding.. is a fab opportunity”. Following such positive feedback, the team are working together to explore opportunities for running future events.
