NBE Guest International Lecture

On 14 May, Dr Paul Hodge from The University of Newcastle (Australia) gave an International Guest lecture in the Peak Lecture Theatre.

Paul’s presentation, “Asylum seeking, research and hope: prefiguring a different world”, drew attention to the increasingly precarious conditions people living in asylum face in Australia, both as a result of forced migration—escaping violence from human-made calamities—and as a direct consequence of minority world governing rationalities and practices.

ASSIST! Sheffield were also in attendance, and it was inspiring to hear how they work to support people who have been unsuccessful in their applications for asylum and as a result have been made destitute.
