International Travel

The University has recently updated the International Travel Health and Safety Policy. This policy has been developed to ensure staff conduct an appropriate risk assessment of their travel and that line managers/Departments have full details of staff travel arrangements.

In summary the policy asks staff considering international travel to do the following:

  • Before any international travel is booked, risks of travel should be discussed and agreed with line managers.
  • Sign up to World Aware (using the four digit access code 7796) which allows staff to create a profile and receive SMS updates and travel alerts, relevant to the destination country. It will provide a risk rating of the country/area to be visited (high, medium or low) and this rating determines the risk assessment and approval process to be followed. For Low Risk Travel, you need only to complete part 1 of the document and for Medium Risk – part 2.
  • Staff should complete and familiarise themselves with the Travel Checklist & Declaration.  It must then be signed, dated and given to the line manager. The line manager should retain a copy and forward another by email to hstraining@exchange.shu.ac.uk
  • In the unlikely event of any high-risk travel (which will need PVC sign-off), staff need to complete all of the travel checklist and declaration and register the trip on https://safetravel.another-day.com/
  • Before you book any travel please ensure that you follow the University travel policy and procedures and ensure all travel is booked through the University’s travel management system
