Children’s Literary Salon

The Humanities department and the Hallam Guild have launched a Children’s literary salon aimed at readers aged 8-12 and readers that enjoy reading children’s books. The salon held an event on 15 August where author Sharna Jackson read from her debut children’s series, High Rise Mysetries and spoke about writing for children and creating characters which was followed by a Q&A, a book signing and the launch of a children’s book club. This was a successful event that was presented by Dr Yvonne Battle Felton, lecturer in creative writing and creative industries and supported by Maxine Greaves, MBE, ECE, Social Science & Humanities.


Off The Shelf activities at the Performance Lab

As part of the 2019 Off The Shelf programme of events, the Performance Lab will be hosting the following events. Tickets are now available from the official Off The Shelf website. 

  • World renowned playwright & Hon Doc, John Godber, will be talking about his career on Weds 9th This will be accompanied by a performance of one his earlier shows, September in the Rain, performed by two recent graduates of Performance for Stage & Screen, on Tues 2nd, Weds 3rd & Thurs 4th Oct.   • Saturday, 19 October 7.30 pm. Join 1623 theatre company for a celebration of British Black voices. Sheffield born artist Lauren Nicole Whitter performs her new show-in-development, Othello’s sister, alongside community storytelling, to explore what it means to be Black, British and female. Tickets available here. 

 

  • Sheffield-based theatre Company Third Angel will be launching their new book (featuring three of their plays) with an ‘in conversation’ with Guardian theatre critic Lyn Gardiner on Mon 14th October. Tickers available here. 


  • And Sheffield’s anarcho-nihilist theatre makers, Dopplegangster (run by Performance lecturer Tom Payne), are making a new piece of work with SHU Performance students about pollution, called Choke Me, which will be performed on Weds 23  – Sat 26 October.
