Dr Susan Anderson, Head of English, talks about postgraduate Meg Gripton-Cooper who won an award for being the poet judged to have produced the best poetry on the MA Creatice Writing course :

We’re pleased to honour the achievements of Meg Gripton-Cooper (again!) Meg was an undergraduate at Sheffield Hallam University: she completed the BA Creative Writing in 2018. Only a year ago we were in the Town Hall awarding Meg the Percy Snowden Writing Prize for her brilliant work in the BA module ‘Experimental Writing’.

We are very pleased to be giving Meg a prize this year too, this time as a graduate of the MA Creative Writing Programme.  Meg has been awarded The Ictus Prize for her continued development as a writer of rare talent, for her intellectual curiosity and her appetite for reading, for all the hard work she has put in over the last academic year.  Her poetry in particular stands out for its experimental vigour, and its lyrical grace – a balance that is hard to achieve, sustain – but Meg has done it.”

Ashley Barnes, Head of Stage & Screen, talks about Kiera Rhodes and Charmaine Lambert who won a joint award for their contribution to ‘carrying on’ through postgraduate study, business, contribution or innovation during any Stage and Screen course at level 6:

We are proud and delighted that Kiera and Charmaine have received this prize.

They both made the most of their time at University by putting their names forward for all the extra-curricular opportunities available.

In L4 they appeared in DEAD and in L6 they both appeared in Mary Shelley & her Frankenstein and Trefxxxers. As part of an employability module they set up a Theatre Company of their own called Green Productions and put on an innovative version of The Tempest.

Charmaine is now studying for a Masters at Plymouth and Kiera has recently worked as a Technician and as an Assistant Stage Manager for Off-the-Shelf 2019″
