Faculty Up-date on our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Knowledge Exchange (KE) Portfolio.

Our Faculty Leadership Team has approved a more strategic approach to the development and management of our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Knowledge Exchange (KE) portfolio.

The new approach is in response to a research project conducted to investigate our existing Faculty CPD and KE portfolio, where it was established we did not have consistent mechanisms for capturing our current activities or for understanding the costs and benefits of this work.

It is clear from the findings of the project that in some areas our CPD and KE activities would benefit from being provided with a more focused Faculty strategic steer.

The Faculty has therefore developed a CPD and KE Strategic Vision which is underpinned by a set of Guiding Principles.

Our new Faculty approach is in line with Sheffield Hallam’s strategic vision for its CPD/KE portfolio and fully supports its Business and External Engagement Activities.

At the moment our Sheffield Institute of Education (SIoE) utilises the “Converis System” for costing and approving their CPD and KE activities, this will continue to be the case for the Institute.

In the near future SHU will require all Departments CPD and KE proposals to be put through the Converis System, communication about this will follow.

All Heads of Departments have been fully briefed on the rationale for the changes and are fully supportive of the new Faculty approach.

The new strategic approach will ensure that our CPD and KE portfolio activities become embedded within our normal Business Planning Process, and are not seen as peripheral activities.

The new Faculty Strategic Vision, Guiding Principles and CPD/KE definitions may be found here.

I would like to thank Prof. Paul Watson and Tracey Holland for their work in leading the project and all staff in departments and professional services for their contributions.

I thank you for your support in adopting our new approach.

Prof.  John Francis
