Faculty in Focus

Each month we will be showcasing individual members of staff and the work that they do both on and off site of the University. If you would like to feature in our Faculty in Focus section, then please complete a form and send it to !SSHComms. It would be great to highlight both academic and professional services staff and show the individual achievements that go on within the faculty.

This month we spoke to Alex Chaggar:

Alex completed a degree in Criminology here at Sheffield Hallam in 2011. Since then he joined the University as a Senior Administrator before being seconded to his current role as a Project Officer in the Helena Kennedy International Centre for Justice. He is now studying full time for an MA in Applied Human Rights alongside his full time job so has quite a lot on his plate!

Alex has also previously worked for the crime reduction charity People United Against Crime working alongside the four Yorkshire police forces to deliver the Business Crime Reduction Centre project.

The core project Alex is currently supporting here at Sheffield Hallam is a trip to Lethoso where he and two other members of staff will be joining a group of students on an expedition working in conjunction with the charity Africa’s Gift.

The trip in June will be an opportunity for Alex to represent Sheffield Hallam University as alumni, member of staff and current student. You can find out more about what the trip will entail here, but in terms of Alex’s contribution, he has been supporting the strategic delivery of the trip, as well as using the opportunity to gather research for his MA where he will measure quantifiable data on the impact the introduction of Wonderbags have on lives in Lethoso.

I will be interviewing Alex just before he embarks on his journey to Lethoso to ask him  how he envisages the tip going as well as talking to him on his return for him to share his experience.
