Research into productivity outside of London

Research from Steve Fothergill and Tina Beatty from the University’s Centre for Regional, Economic and Social Research appeared in a BBC News piece on 3 October after Boris Johnson pledged to spread London’s ‘chutzpah’ around the UK. The study found that when official data for regional economic performance is broken down, there is virtually no difference in economic efficiency between workers in one region to another.


Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation conference

Christina Beatty, Professor of Applied Economic Geography, was the plenary speaker for the opening day of the annual Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation conference in Telford on 8 October. She presented to over 500 delegates from Councils all over the country on “A Review of the Impact of Welfare Reform: Where we are now and what is yet to come”.
