Gaming for Clean Sport

Dr Lambros Lazuras, Reader in Social Psychology,  will be hosting a public engagement event at the National Video Game Museum on 9th November, as part of the ESRCs’ Festival of Social Science Event. The event is titled “Gaming for Clean Sport” and will demonstrate the first-ever video game designed to empower decision-making against the use of performance enhancement drugs in young people involved in amateur and fitness sport and recreational exercise. The event is supported by the ESRC and the gaming application has been developed with funding from the European Commission for the Erasmus+ project “GAME” that is led in the UK by Dr Lambros Lazuras.

The event is open for registrations via Eventbrite now and there are three one-hour slots available between 11am and 2pm:


Erasmus Teaching Visit

In October 2019, Dr Lazuras made his third teaching visit at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the largest public University in Greece, through the Erasmus Teaching Mobility Scheme. During his visit he gave lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students in sport science and sport psychology about his research on doping prevention in amateur and competitive sport, and supervised PhD students that work towards developing psychological interventions to reduce the symptoms of muscle dysmorphia in males involved in strength sports.


Chairing  at International Conference

In October 2019, Dr Lambros Lazuras chaired a special session on  the use of novel technologies in sport during the International Conference on Interactive Mobile Communication, Technologies & Learning in Thessaloniki, Greece. Dr Lazuras also presented his recent Erasmus+ Sport Project “IMPACT” on the use of collaborative technologies to develop and sustain Communities of Practice for Clean Sport among athletes, coaches and sport stakeholders.


Presentation at International Conference

Dr Lazuras, Dr Antonia Ypsilanti and Ms Anna Robson presented three different papers on their research on self-disgust and mental health at the international conference “Emotions” that took place in Tilburg, Netherlands in mid-October 2019. This conference takes place every 4 years and is considered to be amongst the most important international conventions for sharing and advancing knowledge in emotions research.
