The event was organised by Professor Maddy Arden, director of CeBSAP and was a really successful day with a great turn out of people attending the practical workshops and presentations as well as the keynote presentation on ‘The Importance of Behavioural Science’ by Dr Tim Chadborn.

New contracts

Professor Maddy Arden and Dr Rachael Thorneloe have been awarded a contract with Blackpool council to test and evaluate behavioural interventions to increase young people’s engagement and use of a new online career service (£50,000)

Engagement events

There was a celebration of the MRC funded Cog Lab project on Thursday 13th June. Over 30 academics and health professionals attended the seminar at The Mowbray in Kelham Island. Dr Lynne Barker led on this project together with colleagues from The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trusts. The interactive cooking task used to assess cognitive ability of patients recovering from traumatic brain injury was developed by Hive IT. It is hoped that the Cog Lab tool will be further developed and eventually commercialised, and the team is seeking additional funding following the success of the pilot project.

Dr Lynne Barker presented a session on the brain, injury and assessment at the MRC Festival of Science, held in Sheffield on the 15th and 16th June.  Lynne was supported by Rebecca Denniss and Holly Ashton.

On 27 June, Professor Paul Hickman attended an expert stakeholder workshop on Universal Credit at the Department for Work and Pensions. The event focused on the progress of Universal Credit, in doing so, exploring its impact on rent arrears.
