Continuous Improvement Modular Course

Course Description

This interactive course is designed to provide delegates with an understanding of Continuous Improvement, the methodology behind it, and the framework used at SHU. It covers the theory of different tools and approaches in each module and provides opportunities to use them through practical activities.

This course will benefit you and your team if:

  • You would like to improves processes within your area
  • You have a specific initiative/area you wish to improve
  • You would like to learn how to identify improvements and opportunities in your area
  • You would like to understand tools to support you in process improvement and team engagement
  • You want to practice using several tools in a scenario based setting

 

Overall Course Objectives

  1. To build an understanding of CI (including an awareness of Lean), the methodology and background
  2. To gain knowledge of the framework and cycle of improvement and the stages required in order to carry out your own improvement initiatives
  3. The ability to use an A3 Improvement Charter as a means of documenting and communicating improvement initiatives
  4. To understand CI within SHU and learn about initiatives across the University
  5. To develop a working knowledge of a number of CI tools; to understand the theory and have practice applying the tools using a University scenario
  6. To increase confidence to think differently, feel empowered and adopt new approaches to improvement and change

 

Important Notes

  • No prior experience is required, however if you have previous experience of CI training (e.g. if you have completed the PDSP course or any LEAN training, please contact the CI Team to discuss prior to booking).
  • This is a modular course consisting of four separate half day modules over a 5 month period.
  • For the course to be of benefit, delegates should be able to commit to completing all four modules.
  • Modules cannot be booked or completed in isolation.
  • Although not ideal, you may be able to complete some of the modules out of order with the exception of Module 1, which you will be required to complete first.  If you are unable to attend Module 1 on the specified date you will be asked to re-book on to a later cohort.
