Off-Campus and after 5pm

There are several ways you can develop your academic skills whilst at a distance from the university campuses – whether from home, work, or whilst travelling:

  • Webinars
You can participate in an interactive distance webinar, asking or answering questions via your microphone or via webchat. Look for for events entitled webinars rather than workshops.
After booking for a webinar you will receive instructions for how to set up your computer or device to get ready for the webinar, and a link you can click to join the webinar online.
  • Online Feedback
You can also send your work to the Studiosity service for online written feedback. They aim to return work within about 48 hours and you can ask for comments on aspects such as structure, grammar, language use, and criticality.
  • Online resources
Browse the Skills Centre online resources, where you can test your skills with diagnostic skills checks, read our quick guides, and listen to staff and students recommending useful strategies.
So you can learn from the comfort of an armchair, or tune in on a commute to work or to university.
  • 1-1s on the phone
If you’re not sure where to start or find group sessions are not for you, book a 30 minute phone tutorial to develop your skills. These are tailored sessions covering all aspects of academic skills. You can learn how to study more effectively, improve organisation, academic skills and confidence. We can also share online resources and book you onto further sessions that could be useful.
  • Online Chat
  • Studiosity also offer the Connect Live service.  You can instantly chat with an online tutor 24 hours/7 days a week/365 days a year.  Our Studiosity information page gives further information about how to access the service, alongside information about the number of submissions/ connections that you can make each year.

  • After 5pm
At our busy times of year we offer all of these options, plus workshops until 6pm or 7pm.  Our schedule is quieter over the summer, so if you can’t find an appointment to suit you, please make use of Studiosity and the online resources and contact us if you have a quick question.
