About the Skills Centre

What is the Skills Centre?
The Skills Centre offers inclusive academic skills development to all students at SHU. We offer workshops, small group forums and 1-1s for all students to help you to develop your academic skills  throughout your studies.  Example themes include:

  • Presentation skills
  • Research planning
  • Time management
The Skills Centre can help all students to develop their academic skills. Watch the video or see our FAQ to find out how we can help, and explore the site menu above to book onto workshops, forums and tutorials, and find useful resources, and great study tips.

Where to find us

From March 2020 we have only offered online and telephone sessions. However when we are allowed on campus, our face-to-face workshops and 1-1s are normally provided at Adsetts and Collegiate Libraries. See Finding the Skills Centre for helpful maps.

Our off-campus support includes webinars, telephone appointments, and online resources including Skills4Study Campus, a web-based learning resource. You can also find us on the Learning Essentials tab in shuspace, or book onto a session via Unihub.
