Assistive Technology Online

The Assistive Technology service provides a variety of tools to support notetaking, lecture recording, time management, organisation, essay structuring, research skills and revision. In the current pandemic we have moved online with a streamlined service, offering sessions on both Mindview (for planning and organisation) and Office 365 (for improved reading comprehension and enhanced research skills)

SHU students can download Office 365 onto their own devices and for the next 90 days can now also download Mindview

We also have a new web resource on Office 365 Reading Tools, and we’ll shortly be adding more resources on Office 365 and Mindview.

In the absence of an off campus option for the Audio Notetaker sessions we are launching an alternative cloud based software called Glean

Glean: Record your Online Teaching Sessions and Take Smarter Notes

Glean is a web-based app that allows you to record your teaching sessions (online or in-person) and take notes in real-time. All your notes and recordings are saved to the cloud and there are no storage limits.

The software is now free to use for SHU students until the end of August. To get your free account, please fill in this online form and we’ll activate your account.

Glean is designed to be really easy to use, and a two minute tutorial video will play when you first log in. We may also be offering some online sessions in the future.
