Great start to the year!

We have had a great start to the academic year, following our launch of the brand new Skills Centre programme during Induction Week.

Nearly 400 students have attended our workshops and forums in the first 2 weeks – with record numbers at both Collegiate and City campus. Over 550 workshop places have been attended – so you can see that many people are coming back for more!

As always our writing workshops have proved most popular, with an Introduction to Academic Writing, Critical Writing and Advanced Critical Writing leading the way – but we are also really pleased to see how popular some of our new workshops have been: Making the Most of your Lectures and Planning for Academic Success have been especially well received.

When we asked students how they found the sessions – 100% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that the workshops are clear and easy to follow, and 99.5% agreed or strongly agreed that their understanding of the subject had improved.

One student said they found the session they attended really helpful as it offered ‘practical advice and solutions’. Another said it was useful to work in small groups ‘to critically analyse sources to enable me to see what others were doing and thinking’ and that the ‘staff were very helpful… I loved the session’.

When asked what they might do differently after attending a session one student said that they would now ‘ensure I am more critical and not so descriptive’ – with another adding that they would ‘book more sessions!’.

A few students said that they had found it initially difficult to register with Unihub – so if you have found this tricky check out our quick guide to Unihub or book on to one of our same-day appointments and we can show you how to do it!

Our new bookable same-day appointments are growing in popularity – particularly at Collegiate. These are easily booked from the front page of our blog – just click on the pink button on the welcome page of our blog to book to Talk to an Advisor. They are available each day at Collegiate and City Campus – or if you are away from the University you can request a telephone call back.

We look forward to meeting more of you over the coming weeks – so check out our blog and come along to one of our sessions!
