INVITATION – DECOLONIZING METHODOLOGIES SYMPOSIUM 28 June 2019

INVITATION – DECOLONIZING METHODOLOGIES SYMPOSIUM

The Race, Multiculture & Place research network are inviting expressions of interest for a one-day symposium.

Decolonizing Methodologies

Thursday the 27th June   Friday the 28th June

9.00 – 13.00 (lunch at the conclusion of symposium to catch-up and chat)

Sheffield Hallam University

Inspired by Tuhiwai Smith’s text Decolonizing Methodologies this one-day event aims to bring together researchers with an interest in decolonization, to share ideas and experiences in dialogue. The symposium presents an opportunity to critically consider the broad potentialities of decolonizing approaches, for research methods, ethics and practice.

Expressions of interest (of no more than 150 words) are invited for ten-minute ‘stories’, which will be followed by 20-minute discussions. Stories can relate to the theme of decolonizing methodologies in any way, but must be presentable without PowerPoint slides, in a discussion circle format. We are looking for expressions of interests with the potential to provoke dialogue related to the broad symposium theme. Places will be capped at 30.

Please send expression of interests to Manny Madriaga at: m.madriaga@shu.ac.uk

Deadline to send expression of interests is 7th June 2019.

We look forward to hearing from you,

Manny Madriaga, Muna Abdi and Will Mason
