SIGNAL Summer Tea Party (LGBTea)
Members of SIGNAL the staff LGBT network meet for a well-earned end of year Summer Tea Party.
We are celebrating the success of this summer’s two big Sheffield events for the LGBT communities, Pinknic and Pride Sheffield.
We are particularly pleased that the University has increased its participation and commitment to attending the events. Hallam has sponsored the events for several years. However, for the first time members of the HR team volunteered on both days as well as other colleagues alongside SIGNAL.
The beautiful setting for the tea party is SIGNAL member Dave Darwent’s back garden. Dave’s grandparents established it in the 1920s and it retains many features of a traditional English garden. It also has spectacular views of Sheffield and far beyond.
If you would like to visit the garden yourself, you can! Dave opens his garden to the public as part of the National Gardens Scheme and the next open days are the 29th August, (Bank Holiday Monday)and then Saturday Sept 17th 2016.
There are usually at least 10 varieties of Dave’s home-made cakes on offer, as well as tea and coffee, and all of the money goes to charity.
The tea party inspired us to plan our next event, which will be a “SIGNAL bake – off” for Macmillan Cancer Support – particularly for LGBT people living with cancer.
