Essential Blackboard update 1-2 May 2020

Blackboard will be unavailable from 5pm on Friday 1 May 2020 due to an essential security update. The University constantly monitors and acts on advice/updates from suppliers to ensure the security and performance of all SHU systems and this is part of that work. This is a preventative update and there has been no security breach.

This update is planned for 1-2 May 2020.

Blackboard will be unavailable to all users from 5pm on Friday 1 May 2020. We expect Blackboard will be available again sometime during the afternoon of Saturday 2 May, but should be considered at risk for the remainder of Saturday and all day Sunday 3 May.

MyHallam information pages will remain available during the update, but staff and students will not be able to log in to Blackboard nor access any Blackboard sites. Please do not schedule teaching and learning activities in Blackboard during this time, including online submission of assessments.

We know that staff and students will be affected by the downtime and we apologise for the inconvenience this will cause, but this an essential security update. As always, we will strive to minimise any downtime.

If you have student work to mark and wish to continue marking during the downtime, consider downloading any student work submitted online prior to the update commencing and adding the feedback in Blackboard once the update is complete.

If you have any support needs related to Blackboard, email DigitalLearning@shu.ac.uk.
