‘Aving an ‘Appy Christmas – a Christmassy MOOC about Mobile Apps

Social Media Icons - Jason Howie (flickr)Last year, in the run up to the Christmas break, Regent’s University London ran a free Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) focused on mobile apps that can help support teaching and learning on tablets and smartphones. On each day of the ’12 Apps of Christmas’ MOOC, an app was introduced, along with some ideas for how it might be used for supporting and enhancing learning and teaching, and participants encouraged to spend a few minutes trying it out through some exercises. The MOOC was designed to offer a taster for each app, so each day’s material was designed to take between 10 and 15 minutes to complete from start to finish, making the course a great way to find out about a new tool during a short break away from your other work. Several SHU staff took part in the course last year and found it a good way to get some ideas about the possibilities of using mobile devices in their practice.

Regent’s University London have just announced that they will be running an updated version of the course between 1st and 16th December, and it is once again open for anyone to take part in. To find out more about the course, and to sign up, visit the course page on the Blackboard Open Education MOOC system. Please note: although the course uses Blackboard, it is an external system, therefore you will need to set up an account in order to enrol.
